New Webpage

Seeing as its the beginning of a new decade and all that, I've decided to redesign my website.
Check it out at www.michaelrankinaudio.com and let me know what you think

Photography

Well, I've been lazy and haven't posted in a while.
I recently bought a new digital camera for a photography elective I'm taking this semester, and I'm loving it almost as much as music!
Anyway, check out some of my shots here http://www.jpgmag.com/people/mykeman, let me know what you think (and vote for my photos if you like them) :)

-0.3 dbFS

After having quite a few questions regarding the -0.3 dbFS limit for Audio CDs, I've decided to give a quick explanation here.
The reason's actually quite boring and logical; when CD-A first became commercially available, early CD players read a 0dbFS signal as an error, and would stop playback entirely. -0.3 dbFS was considered a "safe" maximum as any peaks that slipped past the mastering limiter wouldn't make it all the way to 0.

Hope that helps

Grooveshark

Just thought I'd share an awesome site I found today.
A last.fm style internet radio, but completely free, and not ad supported. Rather allows users to stream for free, and buy tracks if they enjoy it.

First Recording

Tomorrow marks the first ever (official) recording to take place in my new home studio. =) (I recently purchased a Mackie 24.8 Bus for my Pro Tools setup).

The band is Sons of Messengers, a local Melbourne indie band. Also along for the ride will be two Quad 8 and two Calrec vintage pre's which promise some nice sounds for the day.

Will post with results later.

New Layout!

Well, I finally figured out Bloggers CSS variation, and have "modded" my blogspot to look just like my website.

Leave any comments to let me know what you think.

Live Muisc

It's so refreshing to go see a live band that just clicks together, makes great music and enjoys themselves.

Last wednesday I saw one of the best live acts I've seen all year (SHERO) and to make it more impressive; it was the band's first ever gig.

If you're at all interested in rock/pop/RnB (rhythm & blues, not what it's become) try and make it to one of their gigs.

Also thanks to Collage for continuing to support local, unsigned artists.
